Mystery Red Photo!

  • Deep in the murky depths...um, no that's not right.
  • Secluded in the frigid heights...nope, still wrong.
  • Underfoot in the dank...Still not right!

You tell me...animal, mineral or vegetable? What is this? Respond in the comments and I will answer tomorrow...One hint, yes I used photo shop & no I did not change the subject matter appreciably.

Don't know what it is, but it sure is vibrant and I like the water drops.

Beautiful flowers. Love the way that red comes out.

I thought that it looked like a tropical sea slug...but it really is a young central leaf from a Tuberous Begonia! I was just amazed at the intensity of the colors...as the leaf grows older and larger the top side (like what we see here) fades a bit and the underside turns a lovely dark army green (still with white spots though), but one of the best things about this plant is its flowers, you can eat them! They are a delicate though bright pink and rather thick, about the circumference of a nickel. The tates is perfect for salads or fish dishes or even deserts, crunchy and tangy...rather like a gooseberry. We never have blooms hanging on our begonias anymore...we all keep eating them! But be careful! Only Tuberous Begonias are edible, the Wax Begonias are not! It looks like some sort of a leave with waxy coating.

But it does look like a sea creature.

Excellent photo.

Maybe it is a Angel Leaf Begonia Tog...I can not find a picture that matches anywhere and it was given to me as a start, so I have no idea...but Angel Leaf sounds good to me!
