Hawaii Telephone Company...

Blue skies smilin' at me, Nothin' but blue skies do I see...Blue days, all of them gone, Nothin' but blue skies from now on! (Thanks Willie!)

The blue Hawaii skies are reflected in the window of the old Hawaii Telephone Company Building located in downtown Hilo on Kalakaua st., Noted Architect C. W. Dickey is credited with designing this building, also referred to as the Mutual Telephone Company, in 1883.

It is a wonderful building with wide doorways, windows and lanais to capture the tradewinds, a beautiful double hipped roof, and colorful tiles picking out elements on the exterior, here are a few more pics...this building is right across the street from Kalakaua Park and next door to the East Hawaii Cultural Center (the old Police Station). Hilo has a veritable treasure trove of Architecture and History all interlaced with Romance and Tragedy in a Tropical Setting...sounds like the makings of a great book to me!

    beutiful photo, from looking at it i wouldnt notice that the clouds were just a reflection, nice details in the window

    It is a nice photograph and as pusa said, a reflection of clouds in the window. I didn't notice it either until I read her comment and then went back and looked again.

    You wouldn't believe what Honolulu and Hawaii looked like the first time I was there in 1953. Honestly, it was totally different.

    I have celebrated this day, Mother's Day in my country, with a magazine cover for my wife. I hope you can see it.

    I agree that it is a most unusual photo! I hope that you post more of the architecture that you find interesting. Windows and doors are popular subjects on the DPB sites, and I enjoy this one enormously!

    The variety of architecture in Hilo is fascinating and now i have a great excuse for going and finding it!
    Abe~ I love your "magazine cover", what a interesting life you and Patty are leading.
    Fabrizio I wish the sky was like that every day, but we do receive between 150"-200" of rain a year, though most of it is received at night. We call it liquid sunshine, lol!
